We are down to the final two games in this Captain’s League II (The Deuce) series of JM’s latest warehouse creation, Golfball. In a future article, I will be giving my reflection on this game. But for now, we have a series to finish.
Game 9 will be the “skunk game”. This is the consolation match with the two losers of the semi-finals. That would be The Freezers and The Story. This may truly be a skunker for Jake Storiale, captain of The Story as he currently has no Captain’s League points at all. Whomever has the least number of points at the end of the Captain’s League series of games, their captain will lose their captainship and be relegated to pool play.
Spoilers start here…
Game 9 - (Skunk Game) The Rippers vs. The Story
This game is a modified format and will be treated as a one inning game. In the event of a push, there will be a “putt-off” which includes one drive and one putter and if there’s still a tie, they will keep going with different players.
Driving Order
The Freezers: Big Baby David (BBD), Shelfy, Dalton Feely & Dan Rourke
The Story: Jake Storiale, Zo Demalia, Jolly Olive, Lucas D’Aversa
The first inning for the Freezers will start with BBD hitting to the wall, high center, bouncing off a ceiling light fixture, back to the wall and then short of the green. Dan Rourke would get the first to a popped ball to center, picked up by Lucas. BBD would get one on the green that rolls along the lip of the short fences to get about 5 feet from home for a duck. Dalton Feely goes high center to the wall and a bobbling catch was made by Jolly Olive for the second out. Dan Rourke putts the only duck ball 5’ 4” to home base and was able to sink the putt. The Freezers have one point for the inning.
Leading off for The Story, Jake makes a nice shot to get within 4 feet of home. Jolly Olive and Lucas D’Aversa both hit into outs by Dalton Feely. In the drive from Jolly, Dalton was able to handle the ball similar to a Banana Ball “tip drill” trick play, though likely unintentional in this case. Jake was able to sink his own putt on home base from 4 feet. The Story gets a point and the inning is a push.
In the putt-off, BBD and Jake drive for their respective teams and both balls make it to the green. Shelfy, putting for The Freezers was able to sink BBD’s drive in 7 feet from home base. The Story’s putt made by Jolly Olive veered right and missed. There are no “two putts” in a skunk-off.

Game 10 - (Championship Game) The Rippers vs. The Breakdowns
This game is played in the standard Golfball format.
Driving Order
The Rippers: Luke O’Brien, Ryan Cohen, Jack Doyle, Joez McFly
The Breakdowns: Rob Scirocco, Swilly, Jimmy O’Brien, Lou Dab
First inning
Luke O’Brien would lead off with a hit to mid right. A perfect boop (which is something that still needs to be mastered in this game) was made by Jack Doyle to put the ball on the green about 4 feet from second base for the first duck. Two drives later, Jack would go for right center and the ball was caught by Jimmy O’Brien for the first out. Joez McFly would then drive high right, landing on the green and reaching about 3 feet from home base. This was the first time in this whole Golfball series that Joez was able to achieve a duck. Luke’s second drive would go to high right center and on the way back, Rob Scirocco had the ball but then dropped it, resulting in a place putt. Ryan Cohen would then drive one to high center and caught by Lou Dab for the second out.

Jack was able to make the putt on the place putt ball. Joez, just over 4 feet from home base putted into the hole but then the ball bounced out and it was two-putted by Luke for the point. Ryan would then make a putt from 4 feet to second base. The Rippers have set the target at 3.

Leading off for The Rippers, Rob Scirocco would drive high center, only to be caught by Luke O’Brien for the first out. Two drivers later, Jimmy O’Brien would make what could be called an “intentional bunt”, but just wasting a shot, tapping the ball off the tee on a slight roller that would go nowhere. I am not sure what his strategy was here, but it seemed to be a wasted attempt. In all, no Breakdown players were able to get a ball to the green. The Rippers win the first inning.

Second inning
The second inning for The Rippers would start with Jack, Joez and Luke not reaching the green. Joez’s ball was a line drive that was caught by Jimmy for the first out. However, things started to take off and by the time they got through the lineup twice, The Rippers had 4 ducks on the green; a very high number for this series.
In the putting session, Jack sinks a placed putt that was originally driven by Ryan Cohen and touched by Lou Dab on the rebound. In the second putt, Joez McFly attempts a 5 footer to home base and the ball veers to the right and overshoots. Luke would recover it for the second point. With home base already occupied, Ryan Cohen would attempt an 8 foot putt on first base and the putt went wide the the right. The Rippers get two points that The Breakdowns will need to reach in order to keep this game alive.
The Breakdowns would then lead off with Rob Scirocco. Rob would hit high center and almost rolled as a hole in one but slightly missed the hole as it rolled to about 5 feet from first base. No other balls would make it on the green. The game and this Captain’s League championship would end on a Lou Dab drive to right field that was blocked by Joez McFly giving The Rippers the championship in Captain’s League Golfball.
