We are now in bracketed play to determine the winner of Golfball in Captain’s League II, The Deuce. Due to our crowded schedule here at Michi-chan Sports including family priority issues, I am overdue a story on Game 7 and we are at our normal publication for Game 8, so we will do them both at once.
Spoilers start here…
Game 7 - The Rippers vs. The Freezers
Driving order
The Rippers: Luke O’Brien, Ryan Cohen, Jack Doyle & Joez McFly.
The Freezers: Big Baby David, Shelfy, Dalton Feeley & Dan Rourke
First inning
The Rippers will start off the semi-finals. Luke O’Brien would lead off hitting to the ceiling and landing on the green about 8 feet from first base. Ryan Cohen would drive next and his shot was low and was stopped by the big tree on the green. On the second time around the order, Luke would hit one to high center and then find its way about 8-1/2 feet from home base. Ryan Cohen would hit a show that went to the ceiling and then bounce the back wall at mid-center, as the ball was bouncing on the green at a fairly fast pace, it collided with the duck that Luke had made on his second drive. The presence of the duck did slightly change the ball’s trajectory and would find its way into the river. Rippers with two ducks to play.
Luke would take the second duck to reach the green, about 8-1/2 feet on home base. The angle was perfect, the speed was perfect and the putt was perfect. For the other duck, Ryan Cohen, also going about 8-1/2 feet, this time for first base veers the ball very slightly left and about a foot short of the hole. Jack Doyle would come in to finish the putt. Rippers have set the target at 2.
Bottom of the first was a duck fest for the Rippers. Big Baby David would lead off with a duck 2-1/2 feet from third. Shelfy would follow. BBD would send a ball to the green that was so close to the edge of the river, a sneeze on other side of the room would put it in. Shelfy and Dan Rourke would both get balls on the green due to interference by Joez McFly resulting in place putts. Freezers need 3 to win the inning.
BBD, Shelfy and Dalton would all make successful first putts on first, second and home respectively. Freezers kept 3 ducks and claimed the inning.
Second inning
The second would start of sour for the Freezers as Dan Rourke flubs a ball that does not neve leave the green. Freezers’ only duck comes from a Shelfy driving going high center and then being touched by Ryan Cohen on the rebound. The ball was placed 7 feet from second base, a very popular spot for place putts. Luke would catch balls driven off of Dan Rourke and Shelfy to record the two outs of the inning. Dalton feely sinks the place putt on second. The target is set at 1.
Bottom of the second and two drivers in, Luke would make the first duck on a ceiling shot hitting the wall mid center and finding itself nestled deep in “the woods” between three potted shrubs surrounded on three sides. Ryan would go high right and would be stopped by a very impressive extended arm catch by BBD for the first out. A Jack Doyle drive would get touched by Dalton Feely on the rebound resulting in a place putt. The duck was placed 7 feet from third base. The third duck would come from a redo shot by Luke to a location 4 feet from first base. Much better than the shot in the woods. A BBD catch off the wall from Ryan would end the driving session. Jack would take the Dalton Feely place putt and Joez McFly would take the third duck from 4-1/2 feet on first base. Both putts were successful. The Rippers win the second inning and we are tied at one point a piece.
Third Inning
The inning starts with Luke for The Rippers hitting a shot off of mid-right that took a very unusual bounce to the side and made it on the green just over 2 feet from first base. Ryan would then hit one high left. Dan Rourke tried to make a backhand catch and missed. The place put was positioned for third base. Jack Doyle would then hit a line drive down the center that hit BBD in the face. Joez McFly would send one to right and was caught by Shelfy for the first out. Luke then put up a nice shot to right that came about 3 feet from first base. Ryan would then hit one to high left and was caught by Dan for the second out.
In the putting session, Jack would easily sink in the place putt on third base and Joez McFly took the 2-1/2 foot putt on first. Because first base was already occupied, Luke’s second duck that was close to first had to go to a different base. The decision was made to attempt on home base at a distance of 15 feet. Luke would put the right amount of power on it but slightly off veering slightly left. Ryan Cohen would recover it with an 18 inch putt into the hole. The Rippers set a high bar with a target of 3 ducks for The Freezers.
Bottom of the third. Dan Rourke had the first drive and he sent it to the ceiling and very high on the ride side of the back wall, the ball did a little bit of pachinko bouncing in the I-beam that supports the roof of the warehouse and then came down to be caught by Luke for the first out. On the next drive, BBD would also hit one to high right, this time right into the glove of Jack Doyle for the second out. The Rippers win the inning and the match. They will move on to face the winner of The Breakdowns vs. The Story (see below). The Rippers will face the loser of Breakdowns v Story in the consolation game.

Game 8 - The Breakdowns v The Story
Driving Order
The Story: Jake Storiale, Zo Demalia, Jolly Olive, Lucas D’Aversa.
The Breakdowns: Rob Scirocco, Swilly, Jimmy O’Brien, Lou Dab.
Overall, the entire Game 8 episode including all of the pre-game and post-game activities lasted less than 30 minutes. In other words, not much happened in this game where it would be appropriate to use our normal format for accounting these games, so we will cut to some chases…
Top of the first, Jake Storiale hit one into the river, Zo Demalia’s shot was blocked by Swilly and the shots of Jolly Olive and Lucas D’Aversa both went to high center and were caught by Rob Scirocco for the two outs. In the bottom of the first, all 8 Breakdowns would come up to make shots and none would make the green. Zo had four impressive blocks to different parts of his body, including one “Nike” style leaping catch attempt. Just do it, Zo! The inning was a wash.

Top of the second, Rob would put the first duck on the green about 3-1/2 feet from first base. Swilly and Jimmy O’Brien would have their shots caught by Jolly Olive and Lucas, respectfully. Lou Dab would make the put. The Breakdowns have one point. In the bottom of the second, Jake’s shot would get blocked by Rob Scirocco. Zo and Jolly Olive’s drives went to high center and were both blocked by Jimmy. Breakdowns win this inning.
In the top of the third for The Breakdowns, a shot to center was barehanded blocked by Zo. Lou Dab would record the first out on a Lucas catch. Swilly put a ball on the green about 4 feet from first base and Jimmy would hit one to the wall, which was caught by Zo. Lou Dab attempted the putt and it veered slightly to the left to miss. Rob made the slight tap and put it in.
Bottom of the third, Lucas lined out to Lou Dab in center. Jake would hit a shot to high right. Lucas would assist with a boop and the ball landed 6 feet from first base. Jolly Olive’s shot was a grounder to left that was blocked by Swilly. Lucas’ second drive went to mid right and was caught by Rob for the second out. Since The Story did not get two ducks, it would not be possible for them to win the third inning, only push. Since there was no winner of the first inning either, The Breakdowns were the only team that won an inning at the end of regulation. Breakdowns win the match and remain undefeated in Golfball.
The Breakdowns will go on to play The Rippers in the Championship Game that will premiere at 7:30PM ET on Thursday, July 31 on the Warehouse Games YouTube channel. That 7:30 premiere will start with Game 9, the consolation match where we will see The Freezers take on The Story. We are almost done with Golfball. So what did everyone think about this warehouse game. After this is all over, I may have my take on it.
