Game 4 of Captain’s League Golfball pits the two 1-0 teams together. This includes Jack Doyle’s The Rippers versus Jimmy O’Brien’s The Breakdowns.
Driving order
The Rippers: Luke O’Brien, Ryan Cohen, Jack Doyle, Joez McFly.
The Breakdowns: Rob Scirocco, Swilly, Jimmy O’Brien, Lou Dab.
Spoilers start here.
First Inning
Luke O’Brien would start off by hitting the ceiling and the back wall on the high right side. The ball will bounce on first base but then land 7 feet, 8 inches from first base for the first duck. Ryan Cohen would drive next going to the high left back wall only be caught by Swilly for the first out. Both Luke’s and Ryan’s second drives would go into “the river” (the “water” hazard). Jack Doyle’s second drive will “bounce” on the river and reach about 5-1/2 feet from home plate for the second duck. Remember, there is no real water in the river.
With two ducks on the green, Luke O’Brien would attempt the putt on first base. The putt would veer to the left slightly overshooting the hole about 3 inches away. Ryan Cohen would finish the job. Jack Doyle would putt the second duck, 5’ 5” on home base and was successful. The Rippers got 2 points.
The Rippers would lead off with Rob Scirocco. His drive was caught by Luke O’Brien for the first out. Jimmy O’Brien’s drive went low right but was touched by Ryan Cohen on the rebound resulting in a place putt. It was placed 7 feet from third base. Rob’s second drive went right and landed on the green 4-1/2 feet from first base. Swilly’s second drive went to mid-center on the back wall and on the rebound, it bounced on the edge of the green surface and the ball got some significant altitude, made two bounces off the green and then a third bounce that changed direction and landed on the green about 2 feet from second base. It was an amazing shot and just underscores why I love seeing Swilly in the warehouse. Breakdowns ended up with 3 ducks.
Lou Dab would take the first putt, 4-1/2 feet on first base and successfully sink it. Rob putted the place putt 7 feet on third base and was also successful. Swilly got the opportunity to sink in her miracle shot into second base. The Breakdowns got three points and won the inning.
The Rippers: Balls driven: 8 ~ Ducks puttable: 2 ~ Ducks earned: 2
The Breakdowns: Balls driven: 7 ~ Ducks puttable: 3 ~ Ducks earned: 3
Inning result: The Breakdowns

Second Inning
For the second inning, we reverse the order and it will be the Breakdowns that go first. Jimmy O’Brien would lead off with a ball popped up and caught by Ryan Cohen to record the first out. Lou Dab would tee off next. His drive went to the high center of the back wall and was touched by Joez McFly on the way back, resulting in a place putt, that was put 7 feet from third base. Rob Scirocco would then go high right and that ball was also caught by Ryan. Swilly would then successfully sink the place putt, 7 feet of third base. The Breakdowns have 1 point in this inning.
The Rippers would lead off with Joez McFly, who hit a very low ball to the right wall and did not reach anywhere near the green. It was declared a dead ball and we moved on. Next, Luke O’Brien would go high right. This ball would be successfully booped by Ryan Cohen and the ball ended up nearly 3 feet from the second base hole. Ryan Cohen would then hit off the ceiling and high center and Lou Dab would make a diving catch for the out. Jack Doyle made a nice shot to the high center of the back wall. It came back to the green 4 feet from first but on a diagonal path to the base. A ball hit by Luke would go high right and there was an opportunity for Joez to boop, but that boop was boffed, being directed away from the green. Ryan’s second drive would also be caught by Lou Dab for the second out. Jack Doyle successfully sank the first duck on second base and Joez McFly scored on sinking a 4 foot putt on first base. Rippers get two points, beating The Breakdowns to win the inning and now the match is level with one inning each.
The Rippers: Balls driven: 7 ~ Ducks puttable: 2 ~ Ducks earned: 2
The Breakdowns: Balls driven: 3 ~ Ducks puttable: 1 ~ Ducks earned: 1
Inning result: The Rippers

Third Inning
The third inning went swiftly for both teams. The Rippers would lead off with Luke O’Brien who hit one to high right. His brother Jimmy attempted the catch and although he successfully made the catch, he would lose his balance and slide into the temporary walls that were used to mark the field of play. The Ripper’s second out would come from another drive by Luke. This time it also went high and to the right. It was bobble caught by Rob Scirocco.
Leading off for the Rippers was Swilly who hit a line drive and hit Luke’s forehead, bounced to the right wall and then Jack Doyle was able to make the catch. Lou Dab would get the second out on a high center ball caught by Luke.
Neither team achieved a duck and the inning was a push. We are still level, so we are going to extra innings.

Extra Innings
When there’s a tie at the end of the third inning, the fourth and fifth innings call for one drive with no defenders in the field and only one putt if it makes it to the green. If still tied after 5, a round of “closest to the pin” is done to determine the winner.
In the fourth inning, the only successful ball as from Luke O’Brien from The Rippers. The ball would land 7’ 9” off first base. Ryan Cohen’s putt attempt veered to the left and overshot the base. There are no “two-putts” in extra innings. For The Breakdowns, Jimmy O’Brien’s drive would go high center and then into the river. No points earned, so we move to the fifth.
In the fifth inning, both Swilly’s and Jack Doyle’s drives make it to the green. Joez McFly putts for The Rippers. His putt, about 8 feet on home base came up short. Lou Dab then attempts to make a 6 foot on first base. The putt was just a little too powerful, because it sunk in the hole, but the velocity made it come back out. Still no winner.
In the sixth inning, Rob Scirocco for The Breakdowns hits it high center and it rolls right into the river (about 9’ away from the tree, which is used as the pin). Jimmy, in his “commissioner” role states that since the ball went into the river, the only way The Rippers can win is if they are able to have the ball end up “on grass or sand”. Otherwise The Breakdown would win. The Rippers sent up Luke O’Brien. Luke’s shot goes high and to the right. Ryan Cohen would attempt to boop the ball but booped it in the totally wrong direction. As announcer Jake Storiale put it, “HE BEEFED IT!”. Breakdowns win.

Breakdowns Win. The Rippers 1(4) ~ The Breakdowns 2(3) (6 innings).
