As we get ready for a big month of Arizona derby, there's a lot more than you think going on, we just got some nice national news. It's the dates for ROLLERCON 2009. The 2009 dates that were announced tonight were July 29 through August 2. Thanks to IVANNA S. PANKIN and those involved in Rollercon for announcing the dates so far in advance. It will help those with vacation calendars make plans. Also, I want to thank those who offered me a place to stay in LAS during the Con despite certain characteristics that would make some uncomfortable. I did not make it to RC 08, mainly because I took a new job in May and I had no vacation time, no flight benefits and no money. I may take you up on RC 09.

The number 2 ranked Gotham Girls came to take on the number 13 ranked Tucson Roller Derby Saddletramps in a bout that was carried live by Leadjammer/DNN.The Tucson Saddletramps with Liberty Valezuela (Peaches Rodridguez) out due to an injury suffered during the Championship Bout played a two jammer primary rotation of Sloppy Flo and Sami Automatic. Gotham ran several jammers including Suzy Hotrod, Bonnie Thunders, Cheap Skate and Bridgette Barhot.

In a press release issued by the Arizona Derby Dames, they have announced the details of the upcoming playoff bouts on September 20 where first the 2nd seed Runaway Brides will take on the 4th seed Coffin Draggers and the 1st seed Brutal Beauties will take on the 3rd seed School Yard Scrappers.
Also mentioned was the news that long time Beauty captain Kamikaze Kiwi will be stepping down. In addition to being the Beauty captain, Kiwi is also the public relations contact within the league and outside of derby, she is known as the Midnite Movie Mamacita and co-owner of the independent Chandler Cinemas . During her tenure as captain, Kiwi has guided the Beauties to a undefeated regular season and post season record.

It's been a week since I had fired the shot heard around the rink resulting in Michi's meltdown on the Dames. I am not going to talk more about the incident at hand. I talked about that on Saturday. Nothing has changed. The nice thing about this information age is that a common person like me and you can put our thoughts into a website and have them broadcast all over the world. You don't have to own a radio or TV station or be a newspaper tycoon to do this. With that said, it had me thinking. Did I abuse my trust as a derby journalist with those comments? Yes. I let my personal feelings get into the way and I used the AZDR as a vehicle to vent. Do I regret what I did? In some ways, yes. To the extent that a little more investigation should have been done and not the original knee-jerk reaction.
